Self Care for Mothers

Self care for moms is so important, something I am very passionate about spreading awareness for and implementing in my own life. Without our sanity, everything would fall apart. Probably quite literally. If we aren’t thriving, the kids aren’t thriving. If we are surviving, our marriage isn’t surviving.

Taking time to yourself if essential. Moms, you owe it to yourself for everything you do. We work so incredibly hard day in and day out. Take a minute to review the list below for some self care ideas that require some planning. Babysitters may be needed, or a spouse may need to be present in order to complete some of these.

Here are the ideas requiring some preparation and planning. Some super quick and easy self care ideas for mothers can be found in a separate post.

  • Go for a walk by yourself

  • Clean out your closet and drawers

  • Clean out your bathroom drawer

  • Clean out the pantry

  • Really any decluttering feels so freeing afterwards!

  • Listen to a podcast

  • Have breakfast with a friend

  • Plan a girl's day

  • Plan a girl's weekend/ or week vacation

  • Get a massage

  • Get a facial

  • Get a mani/pedi

  • Take a nap

  • Do yoga, go for a run, or your exercise of choice

  • Find a local animal shelter and volunteer your time weekly

  • Read a book

  • Start a documentary or series on Netflix and binge watch

  • Take an afternoon for a "self-care day" including salon appointment, shopping, movie, etc (could include anything that helps you feel special and rejuvenated)

  • Sign up for dance classes at a local studio

  • Take swim lessons

  • Take a musical instrument lesson (guitar, piano, etc.)

  • Take a long, hot, bubble bath

  • Go to the drive-in movies (so fun!)

  • Go for a drive

  • Watch funny videos on YouTube or TikTok

  • Visit your favorite store and indulge on favorite items

  • Create a fun DIY project for the house

  • Do a 1000 piece puzzle

  • Organize family papers and documents

  • Look through old pictures or family albums

  • Spend an afternoon lounging by a pool

  • Go to the library, browse through magazines, pick a few to take home and read away

  • Go for a bike ride

  • Spa day! (Think facial, massage, mani/pedi)

  • Go to lunch, breakfast, or to get coffee by yourself and enjoy the silence
